When Recut is the better buy
- You want the app that has been around longer. Recut has been out for years and has lots of users. Cut It Out came out in 2026.
- You export to ScreenFlow or CapCut. Recut saves those formats directly. Cut It Out saves Premiere, Final Cut, Resolve and EDL timelines, which most editors open, but not those two.
When Cut It Out is the better buy
- You want more for less. It costs less than half as much, and it also makes a transcript, cuts repeated takes, removes swearing, writes captions and adds chapters. Recut removes silence.
- You record with more than one mic. Pick the mic that matters and cut based on that one.
- You record on an iPhone, OBS or Zoom. Those recordings often have a changing frame rate. Cut It Out keeps its cuts frame accurate on them.
- You want to know what leaves your computer. Our privacy page lists every time the app goes online. None of them send your video.
What we are not claiming
We don't claim our silence detection is better than Recut's. We compared both on a real recording. Where Recut did something better, we improved Cut It Out: a cut count on screen, typed-in values on every control, wider padding ranges and frame-accurate timecode. That doesn't mean our detector wins.
Recut is a good app made by people who care about it. If it fits you better, buy it.
