Your video never leaves your computer. Cut It Out does all of its work locally: reading your file, finding silence, exporting. There is no upload, no cloud processing, and no account to create.
What the app sends
Cut It Out has no analytics, no telemetry, and no crash reporting. It never sends your video, your audio, or anything you make with it anywhere; all of that stays on your computer, as above. Exactly three things leave the app, and this is all of them.
- A free-trial check. While you are on the free trial, the app asks our license server how many of your three free exports you have used, once when it starts and again after each export. It sends a machine code and nothing else. That code is made on your Mac by scrambling your machine's hardware identifier through a one-way function, so it cannot be turned back into anything about you or your computer, it is specific to Cut It Out, and it is not tied to your name, your email, or any account. We keep only that code and a number from zero to three. This is what keeps the trial to one trial per machine. The first time you run the app it does need to reach us, so the free trial needs an internet connection to begin; after that it works offline from the stored count. Once you buy a license this check stops entirely.
- A license check. Your license key goes to our license server when you activate it, and in a periodic re-check afterwards (roughly every few days). That check is what lets us honor refunds and hold each key to a small number of machines. Once activated, the result is cached with several days of offline grace, so travel or a dropped connection won't lock you out. The initial activation does need to be online. Nothing about your key is shared with anyone other than that check.
- An update check. A few seconds after launch, the app fetches a small file
from our download host,
dl.cutitout.app, to see whether a newer version exists. It sends no key, no account, and no identifier of any kind. Like any web request it does reveal your IP address, the app version, and the time you started the app. If a newer version exists you get a prompt, and nothing downloads unless you say yes. If you would rather it didn't check at all, blockdl.cutitout.appat your firewall; the app runs normally without it.
What this website collects: nothing
No analytics scripts, no tracking pixels, no advertising cookies. Our host keeps standard server logs (IP address, page, timestamp) for security and abuse prevention, as every web server does.
When you buy
- Your payment is processed by Stripe, which acts as merchant of record and collects any sales tax, VAT, or GST that applies where you live. Stripe receives your card details and email address. We never see your card number. See Stripe's privacy policy.
- We receive your email address from Stripe, for one reason: to generate your license key and send it to you. Your key is cryptographically tied to that address.
- We keep a record of issued licenses (email, order reference, key, date) so we can re-send a key you've lost and handle refunds. That is all of it: no profile, no advertising, and your address is never sold, rented or shared. We may occasionally email you about Cut It Out itself, and every one of those has an unsubscribe link.
The "tell me when Windows or Linux is ready" list
If you give us your email address on that form, we store it, which platform you asked about, the country your request came from, and the date. We use it to email you when that version is ready, and once in a while about Cut It Out itself: a real new feature, or something we think you'd actually want to know. Not frequent, and never sold, rented or shared. You can leave at any time by using the unsubscribe link in anything we send, or by emailing [email protected], and we'll delete the row. We also keep a copy of the exact wording the form showed you when you signed up, so what you agreed to is a matter of record rather than of memory.
Feedback you choose to send
Help → Send Feedback does not send anything over the network itself. It opens a message in your own mail app, addressed to us and pre-filled with what you typed plus the app version and your browser engine string, so a bug report has enough context to act on. It includes no part of your video or audio. Nothing reaches us unless you press Send in your mail app, and it arrives from your own email address.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask us to delete it. Email [email protected]. Since the only thing we hold is your purchase record, deleting it means we can no longer re-issue your key, so keep a copy first. We'll respond within 30 days.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. If a change ever means the app starts sending something it didn't before, we'll say so plainly rather than bury it here.
