Terms

Last updated 1 August 2026

The short version: buy it once, use it forever, on your own machines, for whatever work you like, including paid client work. One license activates up to 3 machines. Don't resell it or share your key. There's no warranty. If it's not for you, take the refund.

These terms are between you and Cut It Out ("we", "us"). By buying or using the app you accept them.

1. What you're buying

A perpetual, non-exclusive license to use Cut It Out. It's a one-time purchase, not a subscription. Nothing expires, and the app keeps working whether or not you keep paying us anything ever again (you won't have to).

Your purchase is completed through Stripe, which acts as the merchant of record on every sale. That makes Stripe the seller for the payment itself, and Stripe collects and remits any sales tax, VAT, or GST that applies where you live. The license you receive is still ours, granted by us, on these terms.

2. What you may do

3. What you may not do

Activating your key contacts our license server, and the app re-checks it occasionally after that (roughly every few days). Between checks it works offline, with several days of grace, so a dropped connection or a trip won't lock you out. The free trial is counted on that same server, per machine, so starting a trial needs an internet connection once; after that the trial works offline too, and the check stops altogether once you buy. None of this is copy-protection in any strong sense; it's a matter of trust, and it's what lets the app stay account-free. Please don't abuse it. See the privacy policy for exactly what those checks send.

4. Updates

Your purchase includes updates to Cut It Out. If we release it on further platforms (Windows and Linux are in progress), your license covers those too, at no extra cost. We don't promise any particular feature or platform by any particular date. If we ever release a separate major product, it may be a separate purchase, and we'll be clear about that rather than quietly converting you.

The app checks for a new version when it starts, and asks before downloading anything. The privacy policy describes that check.

5. Free trial

Cut It Out allows 3 full exports before a license is required. Every finished export counts, whatever the format. The trial has no watermark and no time limit. We may change the trial's size for future versions; that won't affect a license you've already bought.

6. Refunds

See the refund policy: 14 days, no questions asked.

7. Open-source components

Cut It Out includes third-party open-source software, notably FFmpeg and LAME (LGPL-2.1+), openh264 (BSD-2-Clause) and Silero VAD (MIT). Those components remain under their own licenses, which take precedence over these terms for those components. Source and full notices: licenses, and in the app under Cut It Out → Third-party Notices.

8. No warranty

Cut It Out is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. We don't guarantee it's error-free, that it will run on your particular machine, or that its edits will suit your taste. Keep your original footage. Cut It Out writes new files and does not modify your source, but no software is perfect and backups are your responsibility.

9. Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us. We're not liable for lost footage, lost time, lost income, or other indirect damages. Nothing here limits liability that can't legally be limited, and if you're a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected by anything on this page.

10. Ending the license

If you materially breach these terms, by sharing keys or redistributing the app, the license ends. Otherwise it doesn't.

11. Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, and its courts have jurisdiction. If you're a consumer, you may also have the right to bring proceedings where you live.
